I pulled the latest code at 1830 October 20th.  Had some permission problems if I tried to log in as anybody but admin.  I just made the entire dir structure 777 for now, I'll look more closely at what directory needs it tomorrow.  However, I do see one problem...

I can only see what I type, and other users can only see what they type.  I see them entering and leaving.  And buddy list works.  Just nobody can really chat.

Looking forward to this release.

Do you know what version of PHP your server is running?  It could very well be a problem with the release code since it's alpha code and a new release, but I installed the demo off of the zip package (I don't think I made any changes but I could be wrong) and it seems to be working correctly.  If everything seems to be in order with your server I'll attempt a reinstall of the demo using the zip package.

Check to see if the ./cache/online directory is being created properly (basically check to see if it exists, it doesn't exist in the zip but it should be created the first time you enter a room), there was a problem right before release where this directory would not be created automatically and the symptoms were similar to those you are describing.  Perhaps the fix for that didn't make it into the release package.

The directories ./data and ./cache will need to be recursively CHMOD 777'd, if you do that you shouldn't run into the permissions problems.

php is 5.2.4  (http://chattest.digital-horizons.com/info.php).  I don't recall where the permission error was, but I know it was in the libraries directory.  I'll do a reinstall as soon as I get coffee going.

Looks like the problem is my ./cache directory.  I made it a tmpfs directory but I can't write to it.  Says that the disk is full.  I'll fix that then let you know.  Thanks, I really like this product and look forward to v3.

Ok...it was def the cache directory.  Things look good now.

One error i've found, if  user comes in with either one or two letters in their name they get this error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function commit_changes() on a non-object in /usr/local/apache/htdocs/chat/libraries/lib_session.php on line 174
